Coorg, or Kodagu, is a hill district of coffee estates, pepper vines and old family homes. It is a classic weekend from Bengaluru — five to six hours by road — and closer still from the Kerala coast.

## Where to base

Madikeri, the main town, is convenient but busy. Many people prefer a homestay on an estate near Virajpet or Kakkabe, where the day starts with a walk between the coffee rows and a pot of what the family grows.

## Two or three walks

- An estate walk with whoever runs the place — the best way to understand how coffee and pepper share the same land.
- The short climb to the Mandalpatti ridge for a wide view, ideally before the mid-morning haze.
- A slow hour at the Dubare elephant camp on the river, going early to avoid coach groups.

## When to go

The monsoon months are lush and cheap but genuinely wet. October to March is the reliable window; the blossom, usually after the first pre-monsoon showers, is brief and worth timing if you can be flexible.

> Coorg is not a place for a packed schedule. One walk in the morning and a long lunch is a full day here.

Go for the pace, not the sights. The list of things to see is short; the reason to return is how little you have to do.
