Bengaluru is well placed for weekends: hills to the west, ruins to the north, coast beyond the ghats, and history to the south. Ten options, roughly by distance.

## Under four hours

- **Nandi Hills and around** — an easy pre-dawn drive for the sunrise, best midweek.
- **Shivanasamudra and the Cauvery** — waterfalls in flow after the rains.
- **Mysuru** — the palace, the market, and Chamundi Hill, doable as an overnight.

## Four to six hours

- **Coorg** — coffee estates and slow mornings.
- **Chikmagalur** — coffee again, plus the Mullayanagiri ridge.
- **BR Hills** — a quieter wildlife reserve on the Tamil Nadu border.
- **Hampi** — an overnight bus or train makes a weekend just possible.

## Six hours and beyond

- **Gokarna** — temple town and quiet beaches.
- **Wayanad** — forest, tea and easy walks over the Kerala border.
- **Dandeli** — river and forest in the northern Ghats.

> The rule of thumb: if the one-way drive is more than six hours, leave on Friday night or don't go.

Most of these are better in the cooler, drier months. In the monsoon, stick to the hill options and expect the ghat roads to be slow.
