A Four-Day Rajasthan Itinerary for First-Time Visitors

A tight, honest four days that accepts you cannot see the whole state — and picks two cities plus one stop in between.

Four days is not enough for Rajasthan, and pretending otherwise is how trips go wrong. This itinerary picks two cities and one thing in between, and leaves the rest for next time.

Days one and two: Jaipur

Arrive, rest, and start early on day two: Amber Fort at opening, the smaller ridge forts after, and the walled-city bazaars and City Palace in the afternoon. Eat your way through one old-city street in the evening.

Day three: the drive south

It is roughly six to seven hours from Jaipur to Udaipur by road. Break it at Bundi — a smaller, quieter fort town with a painted palace and a stepwell — or at the temples of Ranakpur if you leave early enough.

  • Start by 8am to keep the afternoon free at the other end.
  • A pre-booked car with a driver is the simplest option for this leg.
  • Trains cover parts of this route but connections eat the time you save.

Day four: Udaipur

A slow morning on the lake, the City Palace, and the workshops in the eastern lanes. Sunset from the hilltop palace or a hill temple, then fly out the next morning.

What to skip on a first four days: Jaisalmer and the desert, Jodhpur, and the Shekhawati havelis. Each needs its own trip.

Done this way, four days is a real taste rather than a blur — and a clear sense of where you would go with a week.
